Hi maker! My name is Claire Goodale, and I’m the designer and maker behind the crochet blog E’Claire Makery. I’ve been crocheting since I was about 7 years old when my Grandma taught my cousins and me how to crochet one Christmas. As soon as I picked up a crochet hook, I was totally hooked! Though none of my cousins enjoyed crocheting, I become obsessed with everything yarn-related. I’ve been crocheting ever since!
When I was 13 years old, I knew I wanted to be a crochet designer. I loved the idea of creating crochet patterns that other people would enjoy and dreamed up all sorts of ideas of how I was going to be a crochet blogger. Despite having that dream, I never actually thought I’d be able to do it, so I stopped crocheting and didn’t pursue anything with it. However, when I met my husband, he encouraged me to pursue my crochet dreams. Because of him, I pursued crochet blogging again, and now my blog has taken me to places I never thought!
My goal on my blog is to help make complicated crochet easy for all skill levels. I love crochet colorwork techniques like tapestry or intarsia crochet, so my patterns have an emphasis on those. Creating pictures and designs with yarn is completely magical, and I love designing colorwork! I create a lot of video tutorials to help make it easy because I know how color work can seem really intimidating. Trust me though, once you get started on it you won’t want to stop! You can find all of my crochet patterns and tutorials on my blog www.eclairemakery.com.

When I was asked to be a part of the Christmas Countdown event here on the Mary Maxim blog again, I knew I wanted to create something perfect for the holiday season. During the holidays growing up, my mom, my sister, and I were always obsessed with all of the fun ways you can wrap gifts. We used to look up gift wrapping inspiration on Pinterest, and have so much fun decorating gifts. While I was thinking about this, I thought, “why not create a way to incorporate crochet into the gift wrapping fun.” Thus the Candy Cane Crochet Gift Basket was born!
Crochet Gift Basket
The Candy Cane Crochet Gift Basket is perfect for holding all of the gifts for your loved ones. It may look small, but you can fit a lot of goodies in this basket. The basket measures 7-8” across. You can fit a mug, a whole bag of peppermint bark, and any other fun goodies you can think of. Plus, after your loved ones enjoy all of the fun gifts you put inside, then they can reuse this basket again and again. I say, “Yes, please!” to reusable Christmas gifts! Be sure to DOWNLOAD IS EXPIRED here on the Mary Maxim blog, but hurry because it’s only available until January 31st!
This basket is super simple to make too so that you can make them quickly and get back to other holiday prep. It’s made in the round using tapestry crochet to create the candy cane striping. If you’re new to tapestry crochet, no worries! I’ve created a step by step crochet tutorial on my YouTube channel to make this basket extra quick and easy. You can find that tutorial at How to Crochet A Candy Cane Basket.
Now to the yarn, to create this basket, I used Mary Maxim Starlette Sparkle yarn. It’s soft and sparkly, which makes it the perfect festive yarn for a gift basket. It comes in a fun array of colors so you can create all sorts of color combinations for your gift basket.
You can find the pattern available for free on my blog at Candy Cane Crochet Basket Free Crochet Pattern.
