Christmas Countdown – Free DIY Doll Outfit

Last Updated on February 3, 2020 by Gwen Bautista

Thanks for joining our Christmas Countdown, let’s take a minute and celebrate that we have survived the first week of Christmas.  With all the hustle and bustle of the holiday, we hope you are enjoying the time you spend on our blog where we stop and celebrate everything handmade.  Thank you for all of your wonderful feedback on the blog.  We read and listen to each and every comment.  Know that if you ever have a question about a project our Project Assistance Team is available to help Monday through Friday from 10 am – 4:30 pm.

For today’s countdown, we are featuring a quick gift you can knit up before the holidays.  How often do you hear “quick” and “knit” in the same sentence?  Knit the Winter Polar Bear Outfit for your 18-inch doll for a vintage Mary Maxim feel.  This adorable outfit was originally designed using Mary Maxim Northland, a worsted weight yarn.  We recommend substituting with Mary Maxim Starlette.  As always check your gauge to ensure proper fit and to make sure you have enough yarn to finish your project.DOWNLOAD IS EXPIRED the PDF here FREE until January 31st.

Handmade and Readymade 18-Inch Doll Clothes

Do you remember making clothes for your dolls or begging your mom or a favorite aunt to make something for your doll?  As much as things have changed over the years, one thing that has certainly remained the same is that little girls love homemade items for their dolls.

We have a variety of ready-made and handmade clothing options for your 18-inch dolls designed with a variety of yarns. Take a look at some of our favorites below.

Holiday Ensemble Kit

This holiday Ensemble Kit includes the pattern and Mary Maxim Starlette Yarn. This kit makes a Bathrobe and Blanket for your 18-inch doll.  It is perfect for snowy winter mornings and cups of hot cocoa.  Make it for your doll or give it as a gift.  This kit coordinates beautifully with our Christmas Reindeer Outfit. The Christmas Reindeer outfit includes ready-made pajamas, slippers, and tutu.

Celtic Ensemble Kit

It is not a secret that we love our classic Aran Yarns.  This kit includes Mary Maxim Aran Irish Twist yarn and pattern to make this adorable poncho, beret and cabled sweater (not pictured). This kit coordinates well with our Plaid Skirt Outfit which includes kerchief, shirt, skirt, and boots to complete the look.

  1. Thank you so much for the doll outfit!! I bought each of my great nieces a doll for their first Christmas and have been knitting them outfits for each Birthday and Christmas ever since so that when they are old enough they can play together with their dolls just like their grandmother and I did with our Barbies as girls. I’m sure I have purchased every knitted outfit you have offered. Thanks again for helping bring this gift to my great nieces!!

  2. I have been working on the Winter Polar Bear Outfit. I haven’t knit in ages but am surprised I can make this pattern. I am confused about the collar. Is it supposed to fold over after it is attached to the sweater? Should it be attached flat as opposed to seaming like the pant leg? Help would be greatly appreciated as this is a gift for the 17th of January!

    1. Hi Kathleen, Thank you for the excellent question. It can fold over or you can pop the collar. It’s your choice, If you want it to fold and it’s just not sitting right then maybe try attaching it similar to the pant leg, we seamed it, you can also tack it so it lays as desired.
